Laurie Wheeler posted good suggestions for improving triage quality in a
doctor's office. One statement, however, warrants response:

"There used to be a phone triage little book out
there at one time, but I think it is out of date or was it provided by a
formula co?"

Laurie, if you mean the 'Breastfeeding Triage Tool' which was 5" x 9",
spiral-bound so it lies flat while you talk on the phone (v. helpful for
those of us who demonstrate manual expression even when merely TALKING about
it), it was most definitely not provided by a formula company.
It was published in 1988 by the Seattle-King County Department of Public
Health's Breastfeeding Promotion Project and was revised at least once, in
1990. The author is Sandra Jolley, A.R.N.P., M.S., who at the time was a
Pediatric Nurse Practitioner and Lactation Specialist previously associated
with one of the most progressive pediatric practices in the city.
Last time I looked (late summer), King County Health Department had a number
of excellent pages about breastfeeding on its website. I think even the
triage tool is available there but this could be a hallucination on my part.
