It continually amazes me, as I read thru these old articles, how many of them have a nugget or two that is right on. From the Female Patient May 1977 by Rosalind Weindling, Breast-Feeding Consultant (!) Lennox Hill Hospital, NYC.
"When the feeding is finished, bring the infant onto your chest again and relax. You will be able to see how the baby relaxes and falls off to sleep. In that position, with your baby resting on top of you, your body is exactly the right temperature, and your breathing provides a gentle rocking motion. That closness is important. After all, this baby has been inside your body for 9 months, and then has been suddenly forced out of that environment. Resting next to your body now provides a sense of security."
