Shooting pain in the breast, especially after and between feeding sounds like
ductal yeast requiring systemic treatment. Also can be referred pain from
nipple compression/gumming from bad positioning or poor suck. The
differential "diagnosis" is history and the shape of the nipple after
feeding. With thrush, the nipple isn't distorted and there usually is a
history of yeast infections elsewhere. With nipple compression, the nipple
is distorted (flattened or compressed) when it comes out of the baby's mouth.
Also, milk transfer is usually suboptimum, leaving milk in the breast
instead of it getting into the baby.
