Lisa: Regarding that "side-car" arrangement...it just goes to show you
that we're making some headway. I think the co-sleepers are becoming more
dominant for the commercial industry to take notice enough to market
something like this. As for the benefits, well, if the choice is this side
car, versus a separate room, I'd vote for the side car any time. We do
know that co-sleeping helps breastfeeding. In that sense, this would be
considered co-sleeping if the side-car bed was actually attached to the
bed. Dr. Sears and Tine T. both advocate whatever co-sleeping arrangement
works for your family. J. McKenna has looked at this and found that when
mom and baby sleep close the mom will instinctively move closer to the baby
until they are touching. Can you just picture a mom crawling into this
pseudo-bassinette (see, I can't even spell it). To me, the expense of
actually buying something that either attaches to your bed of sits next to
it is unnecessary. Still, remember there are many grandparents who insist
on buying "their" grandchild a crib--so maybe this would satisfy them.
Sigh...it's so much easier without all the equipment cluttering up your
house though, but most first time parents don't see that until after the
fact.
WarmLLLy,
Chris
