We, too, find that the original SNS with the two tubes is too much
for many moms to handle.  Many moms, however do quite well with the
"starter" SNS in some cases using it for several weeks as opposed to
the one day that the manufacutrer reccommends.  I suspect the
reasons the smaller one is liked better is that there's only one
tube to contend with and the mom has a little leeway in where to
clip the container.  When I have a mom who will be supplementing at
breast, for whatever reason, I show her both and allow her to
choose, pointing out that the manufacturer intends one for short
term use and one for long term.  They nearly always choose the
simpler one, sometimes even commenting that they'll buy a
replacement if necessary at a later point.
