In my experience over the years I have found shatavari to be just as
effective (and more so in some moms) than fenugreek. It is also known as
wild asparagus and has been used extensively in India for centuries as a
galatogogue. In Ayurvedic medicine it is valued is a female hormone
balancer and treatment for infertility and reduced libido. The most common,
known side effect is "increased gastric emptying." Many of the postpartum
moms I have seen are hoping for this side effect/benefit and, sadly, very
few experience it! About 2% of the moms I
have worked with do report "gurgley intestines and have reduced or d/c the
herb. A very small percentage of moms do report increased libido.

Regarding seizures: A friend just sent me this link to a study on on
shatavari and includes POSSIBLE anti seizure effectiveness of shatavari.
There is only a brief mention of its use as an "antenatal tonic."

Hope this is helpful.
