HI- I have a couple of bits to enter in here. One is regarding the story
about the baby lappe. (What the heck is a lappe, anyway?) When we were in
Ireland a couple of years ago we came across a TV show (PBS-like) talking
about the domestication of animals. They showed women
(I think they were in New Guinea) nursing other species of baby animals and
addressed how important is was for families to maintain the food supply and
keep animals alive when the nursing mother had been killed. They also
speculated how this may have been responsible for the domestication of pigs
and other animals that are used by humans as pets, guards, warmth, etc. The
amazing issue is that they had this on Saturday morning TV (one can only
wonder what would happen here with this type of educational show on our TV).
We have a difficult time showing humans nursing baby humans on our TV.
The other issue is a curiosity one. Nationwide it is being said
that we have an increase in children with Autism and Autistic Spectrum
Disease. In a very small study in Southern Arizona I believe 13 out of 16
children diagnosed with Autism had intestinal inflammation and other types
of involvement with the gut. It was speculated that some of the rocking and
"constipation" were the result of the intestinal discomfort component. FEAT
and others are looking at immunization as the culprit in precipitating
Autism. With the recent thread about Whey/Casein and ABM causing intestinal
bleeding, I was wondering if anyone is aware of a study looking at ABM and
Autism? Muchas Gracias.
