Dear All,

Due to our young liberals (political party) in Brisbane (Australia)
voting to penalise women who breastfeed in public, I have submitted the
following letter (e-mail) through their net site http://203.147.226.96/

I hope that you will also submit your own voice on this subject.

Anne Clarke
Independent Midwife, IBCLC

It is with great distress that I have learned that you have voted in
favour of penalising women and their breastfeeding babies.

Breastfeeding constitutes great health and economic benefits, not only
to the mother and
her child, but to the community as a whole. We as the community should
be paying our mothers to breastfeed wherever and whenever their baby
needs to be fed.

The only ones that should be penalised in our country are those who wish
to impede one of the most natural, healthy and important part of caring
for our children.

Women with families are already under such stressors, we should all be
supporting our mothers, why on earth are you now adding to their burden.

I can only surmise that you are not aware of all of the issues involved,
or understand the
benefits to the mother and child from breastfeeding. There are many
sources that you
can contact on this issue - Nursing Mothers Association, Lactation
Consultants Association, Baby Freindly Hospital Initiative, Australian
College of Midwives Inc.(Qld)to name a few. I am more than happy to
give you contact numbers on request.

I urge you to reconsider this disastrous decision, and support our
mothers, not condemn them.

Yours sincerely,
Anne Clarke BHSc IBCLC RN RM NP
