Tamara: First, is this baby still using albuterol? If so, the mom should
consider asking for a switch to a prophylactic drug with fewer side
effects.

Second, I'm assuming that the baby's intestines were scoped recently and
that the fissures had nothing to do with the abuterol treatment of RSV, but
there may be a link in the development of the RSV. Anyway, as I posted
last week, in 80% of these cases the baby has a cow-milk protein allergy
and in 50% of those cases they are also allergic to soy protein. That
means either in the baby's or MOTHER's diet. So, if you follow current
immunology theory, there is a good chance that this baby actually had both
a respiratory and gastrointestinal allergic response to cmp or soy protein
in the mother's diet. This can mimic RSV and/or it can overload the immune
system such that a true virus can set up camp. In either case, the
solution is NOT to wean from the breast, but to at least try total
elimination of cmp and soy.
