I wanted to alert everyone to another "Ezzo" or "Baby Whisperer" program
called "DreamBabies". A family practice physician at my hospital had a booth
exhibit at our maternity fair on Sunday to market his program. His website
is www.genevafamilypractice.com/dreambabies.htm
I am appalled that this type of program is taking place within my community.
I'm glad that I found out about it, and thought I'd let others know about it
in case it's a program that is prevalent elsewhere. It is downright not
supportive of breastfeeding, let alone unsafe for any newborn's health and
wellbeing. The flyer is titled "DreamBabies - The Gift of Sleep". This
physician is charging $200 for a 45 minute session to show new parents "how
to imprint your child's sleep behavior right from the beginning". One of the
quotes listed on the flyer from parents states: "We implemented Dr. ____'s
method with our newborn when we arrived home from the hospital, and she began
sleeping for 12 hr. nights at 2 months!" Another quote is: "Dr. _____
assured me that by following his advice on sleep training for baby no. 4, I
would soon have one of those sleep-through-the-night babies I'd only dreamt
of. It worked. Life (and motherhood) is so much better on a good night's
sleep!"
It doesn't sound supportive of breastfeeding to me. And, in fact, it
irritates me to no end because it sounds like he's teaching parents to
"control" their newborn's behavior so that their newborn conforms to their
lifestyle. Not attachment parenting style, to say the least.
