I thought the presentation about the daughter providing breastmilk for her cancer striken father was quite good, especially when the doc they interviewed who said although research was sketchy, it certainly couldn't do any harm and that it is an area that needs more research. In making the point that first choice in banked milk should go to premies and sick babies she implied that the inadequate supply of banked milk was secondary to an inability of women to produce enough rather than the lack of banks and donors.
My biggest gripe was the fact that they talked about "benefits" of breastfeeding and "reduced risk" of illnesses in breastfed babies. We have a long way to go to get people to think of breastfeeding/breastmilk as the norm. I posted to that effect on the comments area of their website. While most comments spoke positively, there were those that wanted to sensationalize it by implying that the dad was getting the milk directly and it was akin to incest! The report clearly stated that she pumped the milk and he drank it. Unjfortunately, he said the taste was funny to him so he mixed it with cow milk. I wonder if that might negate some of the benefits.
