Kathy Auerbach's comments on infants kneading at the breast similar to
puppies and kittens being maybe a way to stimulate faster milk letdown or
being their on version of "breast compression" brought a smile as I
thought about my own little ones. I have also wondered about the habit of
many older nursing babies of "twiddling" the opposite nipple when nursing.
I always thought it was sort of annoying, personally, when I was nursing
but had it mentioned to me that it may be a way to provoke faster or more
frequent letdowns. It is amazing how smart babies are.
