I have had a few occasions when I was at my wits' end about what was causing
a very low milk supply.
And certainly sometimes it's hard to wait to see if one thing works, when
you're worried about the baby.
But I think this situation is like so many others when it comes to "the
professional" working with "the mom". Back to ICEA's motto:
     Freedom of choice based on Knowledge of  Alternatives

Another way to look at this is to draw a little continuum for the mom...
Total breast-------------------------------ABM in bottle

Most Americans are somewhere toward the middle of the continuum. Maybe
"total breast" won't be realistic for this dyad. Now she needs to figure out
where she would like to be, if it probably can't be there.
Most of life is not either/or.

Love the concept of "you're a breastfeeding mom, you just happen to need to
use formula at the breast" for those times when it just doesn't seem to
work. And it's so hard to say that when we sure wish we could make it
happen!
