Having had a hysterectomy should have no impact (but HRT is a problem if
she's doing that)....my favourite relactation paper is from the 1950s and
describes Nigerian grandmothers who inadvertantly relactated after
babysitting grandchildren...it's my favourite because it includes a "proof
photo" of a woman squirting milk out of her breast, people were a bit
skeptical (I use this photo in many of my presentations, not a lot has
changed)
Have they accessed some good info about relactation?? The WHO booklet is
still the best source of general info.
Is she planning to breastfeed or provide milk??

The baby's grandmother wants to
be able to nurse the baby instead of giving formula. Grandma nursed both of
her children in the mid-80's for about 6 -9 months each. She had a
hysterectomy about 2 years ago because of endometriosis. They inquired with
their family doctor about using reglan to boost supply and were referred to
the
mom's ob/gyn. The appointment is pending. Do any of you have any
information and/or suggestions? I am not sure if the history of hysterectomy
will affect this woman's ability to relactate. She is 45 and the baby's mom
has
just turned 22. Many thanks.
