Hi Alysha, good to see you jumping in to post after weeks of just reading.
Hope you find Lactnet useful as you continue on your way.  While I don't
live on an island, I still don't have a lot of colleagues I can call right
into the room to consult with me when I get stuck. I can't even call them
into the same town as I'm in, and a lot of the time I need help from outside
my country. I think Lactnet is an especially welcome support to people
working more or less alone wherever they are.  By e-mail you are never far
from a whole community of people who IME have been unfailingly generous with
their knowledge.  Active participation on Lactnet was the most important
preparation I did, before sitting the IBLCE exam.
Good luck with your efforts in the mothers' group. I can think of no better
way to put down roots with people in a new place, and you know yourself how
much it means to be able to get help when you need it most.
