Thanks, Annie, for sharing what Meyerberg had to say about the goat milk!
It is especially good to know that their fresh, Pastuerized, milk has folic
acid added. I added folic acid to the formula that I made of raw milk, as
that is one of the most important potential problems with it.

It is also important for anyone using it with a young baby to be aware of
the color and smell of the baby's urine, because strong smelling, yellow
urine would mean that more water needs to be added to the formula. I have
seen a goat formula recipe which calls for adding only 8 ounces of water to
a quart of whole milk, regardless of the baby's age. I added 24 ounces of
water per quart when Joseph was tiny, and reduced the amount gradually as he
got older. This is what the early regimens for artificial feeding of
infants called for. I have several books from around the turn of the 20th
century, which have a different formula recipe for each week of the baby's
life, at first, and a different one for each month thereafter. I have
wondered, when there was understanding of how breast milk varies to meet
baby's needs by age so long ago, why formula companies have not produced a
wider variety of formulas to do the same. Maybe that wouldn't be cost
effective.

Like I said before, I think goat milk, used in a wise manner, can be a good
alternative to commercial formula, but certainly NOT a good substitute for
breast milk, when that is available!
