Photos and case studies make for an intriguing continuing ed. You can
contrast a few cases where moms got the correct and the incorrect tx.
You can do a quick review of the latest research on bf and later health
(cardiovascular risk, cancer risk (breast and prostate), osteoporosis,
diabetes (esp type II), and asthma. These are going to be the things
that many of the internists see in adults, so these can engage them
better than talking about ear infections and diarrhea.
You can talk briefly about the Israeli study that showed higher caloric
density of milk in mothers bf toddlers.

I think I'd start with a case, photos and all, as dramatic a case as you
can find. Then tell them why it's important that bf be maintained as the
mom is treated.
For supply and demand, you can give them the "new research" on FIL,
autocrine control of milk synthesis, and early calibration of supply
(more bf on day 2=dramatically more milk at 6 weeks). You can sneak that
in under the guise of teaching them about appropriate pumping schedules,
or mother's need for access to her infant while hospitalized or ill.
They will probably need to know that baby is not going to get sick from
mom's milk, and that pathogens ascend from damaged nipples (and the
importance of hygeine if the skin is broken), that gives you an excuse
to talk briefly about latch and it's importance in avoiding nipple damage.
Kay Hoover has some great old slides of an abcess incision and
drainage...that would get their attention.
