Just because everything seems to have worked well, with no injury so far, doesn't mean it's the right thing to do or that it's okay to continue doing it. I rode flat out on the back shelf of my father's Ford Coupe for years - therefore, it's okay to always ride on the back shelf, right? This isn't a question of seat belts, which didn't exist. I wasn't in a seat!

Or, I was fed formula as a baby and I'm okay. 

This is typical of people trying to shed their personal responsibility by putting it onto the mother. Verbal and written instructions should be very clear of the risks to mother and to her milk supply. Using Brand X pump kit with Brand X pump, is the only responsible thing to do. This is NOT just a marketing thing for the pump companies. Cost or convenience is irrelevant. 

If she isn't injured, the opposite is ineffective milk removal = loss of supply. It's not okay.
