Ok - I need our MD and Neonatologist's assistance here please.

My client who had the gastric bypass was asked to limit her dairy intake by
a nurse because (get this) the baby has a dairy allergy that CAUSED a run in
with NEC. The NEC was caught early and baby was taken off all (ABM) feeds
for a week. They didn't tell her to go off all dairy - just limit intake.
So - what say our MD's? I told the mother that the baby had a run in with
NEC because he was not getting human milk. I know I can back this one up
with research.anyone have a link for this one because I can't find it!
<grrr>

Here is another good one for you. This hospital REFUSES to use donor milk
from milk banks because it is not safe - it may have diseases, etc. and put
the babies at risk. <picture me with my jaw firmly on the floor!> The Neo
in charge of this baby's care told this to the mother. A nurse in the NICU
told the mother she would never ever take a risk with the baby's health by
feeding it donor milk. I suggested to the mother that she ask for evidence
based research that states these so called facts. I'm thinking we need
Nancy to come up here and do an in-service.sigh.

Mother is scared out of her wits now due to this. Her instincts tell her
human milk is best and that getting donor milk is the answer. The Dr is
telling her that human milk will NOT take care of baby's problem. Mom's
milk supply is terribly low - there is no way she can provide enough milk
for both babies so she is pumping all of it for the baby still in the
hospital and letting the baby who is home have recreational breast time.

What I need please are links to information that I can print out and hand to
mom to take to her Dr's. I will be seeing her on Saturday for a consult.

All input greatly appreciated.

Thanks.
