We just received the December issue of National Geographic World, "the
official magazine for junior members of NG Society". My 18 year old son
calls my attention to the photo of the baby manatee being fed with a
bottle-"oooh, mom, look, a bottle"; I do a quick double take and then point
out to him that yes, this is the time for a bottle, when the orphaned baby
manatee has no mother to feed him and he needs to get a bottle of goat's milk
mixed with soy milk. The kids feeding the manatee are quoted as saying that
at first the baby was reluctant to drink it, but gradually got used to it.
(!!!) Dr. Ahrendsen, this reminds me of your wonderful talk, showing how
breastfeeding is connected to -- EVERYTHING!
