I have just seen a woman at 32 weeks pregnant who came for advice
because she had surgery 12 yrs ago fob lateral inverted nipples. The
surgery included inserting 160ml and 210ml implants under the nipple to
support the eversion surgery. She has minimal colostrum leakage from one
breast. We have adopted a wait and see approach with as much lactation
support as can be offered, but I personally won't be holding my breath.
The surgeon did not offer any discussion around breastfeeding at the
time-this woman is now feeling very upset about the whole thing. The
original surgery was for cosmetic reasons and the result doesn't
actually look that great!
