In spite of having said that I won't post, I felt that I ought to reply to
the question about how newborns behave after birth.

My second child was born with no interventions or meds of any kind, after a
normal labor (not short, not long, not too difficult). She was alert after
birth, but completely uninterested in breastfeeding. I expressed some
colostrum into her mouth, which brought a look of surprise to her face, and
to the nurse's ("Oh, you know how to express?!!" She first breastfed when
she was ready, several hours later, and breastfed frequently and stayed
alert until she was about 15 hours hold. Then, she fell asleep, and nothing
could rouse her for the next 18 hours or so. The nursing staff seemed
surprised by this, but my doctor thought it sounded normal, and said that in
his experience, many babies behave this way.
