Since latch-on and positioning, done well (aha, there's the rub, as it were)
usually solve the great majority of problems, the question is surely, is any
study which does not address these first, ethical?  The modern idea of
research ethics was born in response to the revulsion of the scientific
community when the extent of Nazi experimentation on people became known --
we should remember that research ethics really do matter.  To disregard the
simple, non-technical, yet effective solution in order to prove the efficacy
of a product which is going to make some money is all too commonly seen but
should always be questioned and resisted.
