First, thanks to everyone who responsed so quickly. When I asked for
diagnosis, of course, I meant the doctor's diagnosis. I did watch the baby
breastfed Thursday. The baby needed some help with latching on and
positioning. The baby was examined by one of our peds ARNP. She put her
finger in the rectum and found some stool. She was gaining but not much. I
sent her home with instruction of feeding every 2-3 hours. Setting a clock so
she would wake up. The health dept. brought the baby back for a weight check
Friday. I weighed the baby and it gained less than 1 oz. in 24 hours. But
baby did look more alert but was passing gas like crazy. Another ARNP
suggested using a thermometer for rectal stimulation. I called mother this
morning. I asked if baby had BM over the weekends. She said that on
Saturday night the baby was very uncomfortable so she remembered when her
other child had this problem she gave her an enema so that is what she did.
Baby did have BM from enema but not since Saturday night. She states that
baby is eating better with the breast. She is coming in tomorrow for weight
check and an exam. I will use what information that you have all shared.
 Thanks Bernadette Comstock
