I am a breastfeeding teacher at a technical Institution in Hawkes Bay New Zealand teaching midwifes/RNs about Breastfeeding plus other things.

We are examining expressing and I am unable to find any written material to support the commonly held view (here) that in the immediate postpartum period that it is best to commence expression by hand. There is plenty of reasoned debate in the group but I would like to find evidence if possible. Can you offer any help. I am a closet lactnetter from way back.

In hopful anticipation.

Annette Hagan

Midwife, IBCLC etc.
