I think the rate of 65 minutes for gastric half-emptying for formula-fed infants may be outdated.  The studies posted are from 1981 and 1999.  Formula has changed quite a bit in the past ten years and is now more easily and quickly digested.

Although this study (http://www.journals.elsevierhealth.com/periodicals/yclnu/article/S0261-5614(07)00215-4/abstract) is comparing formulas to other formulas, it shows a GE half-rate of 46-55 minutes, not the 65 minute GE rate shown in the 1999 study.

This should give your argument a case that NEITHER breast- nor formula-fed infants should be put on a strict three-hour schedule.   It also is a good counter to parents who formula feed their otherwise breast-fed infants at night to make them "sleep longer."
