The talk about the effects of the power outage, on moms who are only pumping, or formula feeding, reminds me of when we were evacuated from our Miami Beach hotel, due to a hurricane, on our trip to adopt Joanna. I hadn't pumped in advance and did not have access to domperidone, but was still nursing my toddler a few times a day so, although I was supplementing Joanna with formula in the Lact-Aid, she was at least getting a few ounces of breast milk a day from me, as soon as she started nursing. One of the challenges, when everything closed and everyone panicked at the threat of the hurricane (this was only a couple years after Hurricane Andrew), was finding enough bottled water for mixing formula, to stock up on. Another thing that frightened me was the thought of taking my five day old baby to a shelter filled with hundreds of tourists from many different parts of the world. However, the fact that she was at least getting those few ounces of breast milk from me was very comforting, on both accounts, and she came through it just fine!
