Hi Kim,

I'm sure someone else has.will weigh in on this subject (I'm just getting to
yesterday's LACTNETs now!) but I'll respond anyway with my own knowledge of
this subject.

If a mother is anxious to be fertile again, one great way is to try to go 6
hours without nursing at night. The hormones that control ovulation seem to
do their job best at night if left to, without the nursing hormones.

Of course, every woman is different -- she may start her period very soon
without changing anything (I was nursing my daughter every 90 minutes all
night until she was 18 months old, and tandem nursing around the clock after
my son was born, and I got my period at 8 months both times), or she may
wean down to one nursing a day and not get her cycles back in 2 more years.
As a Natural Family Planning peer counselor and a LLL Leader, I've seen the
gamut, for sure.
