Hi All,
One of our WIC PC's will be working with a mom who is pregnant and a heroine
addict.  The mom plans on going into a program to get off the heroine before
the baby is born.  We do not know the due date of the baby (Poor baby, being
born in this situation, huh?).  Mom says she will be getting into a Methodone
Therapy program to get off the heroine.  Mom wants to BF.
Questions are:

Re: Withdrawl in the baby after birth:
       If mom has completed Methodone therapy, will the baby still go through
withdrawl?
       If mom has not completed the therapy, what state can we expect baby to
be in?

Re:  BF
       If mom has completed the Methodone therapy before the baby is born, BF
should be OK, right?
       If mom has not completed Methodone therapy, should mom pump and dump
until done, or go ahead and BF the baby?

Now, I thought I read somwhere that even if the mom is still on drugs, but is
weaning off, that it might be a good idea for baby to have the breastmilk
because then the baby isn't cut off cold turkey, but could also be "weaned"
off the drugs as well.  Anyone know anything about this?

Any info regarding this will be very helpful.
