Just when I thought that I had found the perfect combination- patience,
excellent technical skills, a kind disposition, and up to date knowledge,
all wrapped up in one OB/GYN, I was jarred back down to earth this
afternoon by the above mentioned DR. When he heard that I am STILL
breastfeeding my 2yr 7 month old son, he looked at me incredulously with
widened eyes and said,"What? I never heard of such a thing!" When he heard
that I had breastfed my previous toddler almost 3 yrs, until I was 5 months
pregnant with the youngest, the one whose pregnancy he "went thru with me",
and that I didn't even think of mentioning it at the time, he was
completely taken aback. Then with a wave of his hand said scoffingly, "I
don't believe in all that, that breast milk is really better..." and added,
commenting on my statement that all babies needs are met by the mother
through bfdg, and that they grown into secure adults etc..."and what
happens when he is an adult and he sees that life isn't that way?"
We agreed that I would provide him with some research showing the
advantages of bfdg, and I hope that it wasn't just to shut me up, and that
he reads it.
Mmmmmm, so much work, so many issues.
I am glad to have this forum to share this with.
Where is that holistic, "wholisitic" physician who sees the whole,
understands it, accepts, and treats accordingly. Not fragmented care for
each part of the woman's body, and run of the mill ideas.
Just me, Jennie, ranting in balmy Israel, where tonight the full moon is
low in the sky, looking like a giant balloon that you could reach out and
touch.
