A good friend of mine, mother of 3, had breast reduction surgery as a
teen. It involved removal of nipples, and hence severing of the milk
ducts.(she didn't know this was a consequence,at that, time, and she
wasn't remotely thinking about BF, being a teen. She could not nurse her
babies( a source of tremendous sorrow for her).I recall she gave them
formula for the first 6 months, and then switched to goat's milk, and I
believe also began solids then. I think she gave them the ABM at first
for the iron in it,I don't know if this was the only reason, or if she
felt it was better overall for a young infant. Don't know how she
determined that at age 6 mos. it was ok to switch to GM.I believe she
thought up this feeding regimen independently of a physician.(she went
to a homeopathic doc.).Her kids all seemed to do fine, but I wonder if
the GM was really better for the babies than ABM.After all, it's made
for baby goats. I think she viewed GM as more natural than ABM, and
therefore more acceptable to her. Well, it is more natural, but for
human babies?
