I took my last child back to UNI the week she was born.Admittedly I was only
going two nights a week for an hour each.My husband looked after my other
two children whilst I took the breastfeeding child with me.
I experienced no problems as I was amongst my nursing colleagues and there
was another girl who had her baby a few weeks before me who was doing the
same.
We had been split up into two groups as we were quite a large
post-registration nurses who were upgrading to a Bachlor of Nursing Degree
in Brisbane Queensland Australia.I was offered a cot by the tutors to put
her in but she generally fed and went straight back to sleep in her pram.I
took her with me until she was about eight months old,at this stage she was
becoming too nosiy and wanted to get back and crawl about. She use to get
nursed by all the memers of my group and they were disappointed when I
stopped bringing her.
There were males in the second group but not in my particular one.
The course I was doing was based on Group work with group participation and
discussion. No sitting for long periods listening to lectures.I think I only
missed the one night of the week I had my C/S(elective).When we went to the
lectur4e theatres to listen to guest speakers if she got noisy or
distracting I took her outside and the girls from my smaller group work
section gave me a copy of anything in the way of notes I needed.
Many of my colleagues at work are attending UNI some take their babies with
them and others arrange for childcare during this time, some of our UNIs
offer onsite childcare and this is taken advantage of.It is an individual
prefeerence on the matter of taking your baby with you and to what type of
course you are doing.
