Pat: I was so glad to see your post about reflux. As I said with the flat
nipple post, I'm not into labelling because of its major negative impact.
We have a local IBCLC who insists on calling everything by a technical
term...an abundant milk supply becomes "oversupply" or "overactive milk
ejection relex"... a slight undersupply becomes "insufficient milk
production"...all spitting up is "esophageal refux." Not to rant or
anything, but it has come to the attention of several of us that this
person seems to foster dependence in her clients and does her best to send
everyone home with prescriptions and/or technology. The sad thing is that
the docs now think that in order to "succeed" in bf every woman has to have
these things. Every mother-baby dyad needs support, but **most** don't
need shields, SNSs, pumps, shells, home scales, Reglan, etc., they need to
be helped with latch or maybe positioning, and told "YOU'RE DOING
GREAT...LOOK HOW THAT BABY IS GROWING ON YOUR MILK."
Chris
