It is for some programs, but I believe there are at least 2 educational
programs, one current, one no longer functioning, that confer a CLC. Both
call their graduates Certified Lactation Consultants (not Counselors). And
because of the certificate they earned, they use that title in their
practices. That educational certificate may create a challenge if IBCLCs
try to reserve the title "Lactation Consultant" for IBCLCs only, within our
state's licensing laws. But IBCLCs are the only ones who can use the RLC as
created by IBLCE's official Registry. Are there any attorneys out there who
can describe whether, or how, one would address this issue while writing a
new state law?
