I am the one who was requesting refs for a journal article on BF and
Caries.  I have had a flood of help from the list, thanks so much.  I
have now subbed.
I have been in contact with a mom who 1 month ago was bf her 3 month old
in the admitting area of a Calgary hospital.  She was told by the
receptionist to stop bf or security would remove her.  She was shocked
by the disgust and aggressive attitude of that woman and intimidated by
the threat of 'police' so she and her spouse left.  Later she sent a
letter to the Regional Health Authority, Human Rights Commission and
Board of Directors of the Hospital.  She received a letter of apology
from the hospital but they did respond to her requests for action in
education of all staff on the rights of bf women.  The Regional Health
Authority did not respond as I understand.  The Calgary office of the
Human Rights Commission told her today that they get a "few complaints"
from bf women every year, but that "it's not something they see as a
problem" and that if she wanted to proceed with a complaint she needs a
lawyer.  Read $$$$.   Is this how our system works?  This is a first
time mom with a new baby, a new Canadian with English as a second
language.  She is not interested in a lengthy legal battle and does not
wish to attract media attention, yet she wants change.  Every time this
woman sits down to nurse her baby in public she will be thinking about
that awful experience.
