There is a recent study by Halpern et al, "Effect of Labor Analgesia on BF success", published in Birth 26:2, June 1999, which jibes better with my own work experience, that it is how we care for mother and baby afterward which has the most impact. Note the word "most". I believe this study has been cited on Lactnet already. If not, check it out.

I work attending home births (not as part of my hospital job) and see very clearly the differences in interaction between baby and surroundings at home and in hospital, where pharmaceuticals are just one of the myriad of things we manipulate. If I say any more, I may end up below the belt myself, horrors.

Nail polish discussions are fine. Just kick those legs up high and get them to chest level!
