I just saw a mom who had mag. sulf. during preg. and postpartum for high
blood pressure. She had IV during her 22hr. labor and baby was vaccum
delivery also has a broken collar bone. Mom is F cup size with flat nipples
that retract when compressed. Grandmother bottle fed infant EBM and some
formula last night since discharge weight was 10oz. below birthweight and
they could not get baby to latch. When I got there today, we pumped but
areola still firm (lots of water retention from IV) Baby got highly agitated
at breast would latch but then would not continue to suck (just kind of
waited then came off) Even tried starter SNS at breast hoping flow would
keep baby sucking but he was too frustrated. (Nipple sheild given at hospital
didn't seem to help either) So mom agreed to fingerfeed EBM for now and to
continue to try latch-on to breast. Talked about feeding cues to catch baby
before too hungry. Baby hopefully will be more cooperative as collar bone
heals. Questions: how long for bone to heal ? How long til Mom looses extra
water retention? Any tips for extremely large breasted women? Places or
cataloques to purchase large bra sizes?
