Hi to all the UND students. What a great education you are able to get here on
Lactnet! You are also providing us with some education. Thanks for writing
your references.
In our moderate-size hospital in Central Florida, babies are usually
circumcised within 48 hrs of birth, in the hospital, before discharge. We
notice that many, but certainly not all, newly circumcised boys are sleepy-
probably from over stimulation- for several hours after the procedure. When we
have a baby who has been sleepy & not nursing well, we may ask the physician
to postpone the circumcision until the next day. Most physicians prefer to do
the circumcisions in the hospital rather than in their offices. They do not
have the time & equipment to do them regularly in their offices.
I wonder how local anesthesia affects these babies & breastfeeding? All of
this would make for an interesting study. Let us know what you find?
