I am an RN IBCLC in mission viejo,ca. We (the LC's) want to implement s2s at
birth at our hospital, meeting alot of resistance, especially from the nursery
nurses. I also am a nursery nurse and we have many deliveries per day and
lots of tasks to do, also I think because of our NALS training (neonaltal
resusitation) we think all babies need to be taken to the warmer before giving
them to mom.
I tried to do all the deliveries I went to and only 1 out of 7 where it happened,
and the OB dr was a little annoyed because he wanted the babies weight. 3
were c/s,s, but they were s2s within an hour of birth. 2 babies neede a
little "help" breathing better, 1 mom said "oo clean him up first".
What studies are the best to show how and why s2s needs to be right away,
not after we have done all of our nurse things first?
thanks Linda Hansen RN RNC IBCLC
