The researchers in Dundee, Scotland are following a large cohort. The first
study showed reduced infection (particularly gastro-intestinal), following
up at 2 years. Howie et al, BMJ 1990. Next was published in BMJ 1998 -
showed benefits of breastfeeding and delaying solids till 16 weeks (yes,
that's delaying in Dundee terms< and also is the 'official' recommendation
in UK). If I remember correctly, they found reduced wheeze, less body fat,
and lower blood pressure.

I believe the children are now in their teens - and they are looking at
cholesterol and glucose tolerance. No doubt they will publish in due
course.

The study was well constructed (IMHO) and controls for confounding factors.
