Hi Jake,
I suspect that the UK is actually similar to Australia where that *any* org can apply for a temporary exemption to very specific aspects of anti-discrimination legislation. It is not up to the military to decide but up to the antidiscrimination authorities to decide whether that is permissable. So at least in Australia, the military are bound by the same laws as the rest of the country and mothers are protected (at least in theory) from discrimination because they are mothers and because they are breastfeeding.
