I recently had a mom choose to breastfeed on lithium; we followed baby's
levels and TSH: no problems. He's now over a year and doing great. I
even got some of my "15 minutes of Fame" by being referred to in the 1996
edition of Dr. Hale's book as I corresponded with him during this time. I
wrote up the case report for the Academy of Breastfeeding Medicine News
and Views; I believe it may be in the next issue. Hope this helps.

BTW, there are some alternatives to Lithium for bipolar disorder; have the
mom check with her psychiatrist to see what the latest is. (I'm not up on
all the psych literature; I believe some of the anticonvulsants are being
used for bipolar and other psychiatric disorders.)
