I posted over the weekend re: Baby who is being fed goat'smilk and came in hypernatremic and very ill. Baby is awake and alert, IV is d/cd as of this AM. Mom and dad have no intention to comply to standard commercial formulas. I did convince mom to pump to challenge a milk volume increase and basically relactate. She is doing better, though still half of what baby will need. Baby is 12 days old today.
I called the Ted/Sharon Broer 1-800 # and spoke to a phone person: I had the following questions: First, is use of the goats formula researched based - Answer: there is a bibliography in the book ( which I do not have) Next: Does the recipe change with the changing demands of the child - Answer, Not sure
I believe the parents are completely sold on this.
Here is the Recipe:
Raw Goats Milk - 1 gallon
1/2 tsp. Blackstrap Mollasses
1 Capsule of Folic Acid ( 800 mcg.)
1 Capsule of Vitamin E ( 100 IU)
1/16 tsp. Vit. C
* To the first and last bottle of the day add 5 gtts. of flaxseed oil and 5 gtts. of cod liver oil.
Once again - input on this is greatly appreciated. Anyone registered dieticians out there? Anyone who has worked with others in the Training up your child programs.
Greatly appreciated. Thanks to Judy, Michelle and Annie for your responses. Sue Majoris - IRMC
