I am wondering if anyone has experience with a mom who was on birth control
pills and noticed a milk reduction, then discontinued the pills and was
able to build the supply up again? This particular mom was on
orthotricyclen - her baby is now 8 weeks old, and the supply is going down.
She is willing to stop the med but would like some information about her
chances of building it up again. We talked about the usual ways, plus the
herbs.

Also, we have a baby born at 29 weeks who is now about 5 weeks old. The
mom has been pumping and supplying the breastmilk. She developed mastitis,
and was treated with Ceftin for 7 days. All of her symptoms subsided.
After she was on the med for 24 hours, the neonatologist requested a milk
culture, and in the meantime stopped all breastmilk for this baby. Perhaps
by coincidence the baby had not been doing too well, and seemed to have an
infection, though they were not able to isolate the source. The baby did
improve while on the premie formula, and the cultures showed Staphylococcus
Edidermidis (o.k.) and Beta Strep Group B from the right breast. Left
breast showed the same, plus enterococcus faecalis. The cultures have been
repeated at least 3-4 times and still show on the most recent culture Gram
positive cocci, probable staph, and Gamma streptococcus on the right,
and Probable staph on the left. The physician is still holding all
breastmilk, and the mom is faithfully pumping, and the physician is asking
the mom to start on another round of antibiotics. Help, Help, Help!!!
Are there different guidelines for the NICU baby when the mother has
mastitis? Everything I have been able to read and check on indicates
continue to breastfeed. Thanks for any insight, or for pointing me in the
right direction.

If anyone is able to respond, please use my e-mail at home as I am able to
check it more frequently. Thank you in advance.
