Hello US Lactnetters,

Carolyn Maloney from New York reintroduced the Breastfeeding Promotion Act
(2009 version) on Thursday June 11 on Capitol Hill at a press conference. I
was in Washington DC the day before at a training/ lobbying event jointly
sponsored by the American Academy of Pediatrics and the US Breastfeeding
Committee and the Virginia and DC Breastfeeding Coalitions. I was there as a
representative of the PA Breastfeeding Coalition and The Breastfeeding
Center of Pittsburgh. There were about 50 people attending. We were briefed
on the bill and went to visit our respective state legislators to educate
them on the bill and ask them to sponsor it. Senator Merkely from Oregon
introduced a companion senate bill simultaneously. You can check this
website

in the next few weeks ( <http://www.dcbfc.org/> www.dcbfc.org) for the
updated Advocacy toolkit (the one currently on the site is from the
Breastfeeding Promotion Act of 2007). If you want to support the bill you
should review this toolkit as soon as it is available and proceed to inform
your own legislators across the US. The site where you can check the status
of the bill is <http://thomas.loc.gov/> http://thomas.loc.gov/. You'll
have to enter the bill number HR2819 into the search engine. I checked a
little while ago and it is not yet loaded onto the site.
