Heather, 

A mother with a lipase issue (evidenced by a soapy or rotten 
smell/taste to her milk after it's been frozen and thawed, due to 
excess lipase in her milk which begins digesting the fat in the milk) 
might heat her milk before storing it in order to disable the action 
of the lipase and extend its "shelf life," so to speak.  There is a 
method and a specific temperature for heating this milk so that only 
the lipase (and nothing else) is disabled.
