My youngest had herpes sores in his mouth/throat and was ultimately
hospitalized with dehydration because he couldn't even stand a drop of
water in his mouth. We were able to get some relief with Tylenol- (codeine
would have been better) and then his health care provider had us paint his
mouth with something creamy white (mylanta?) and an oral topical anesthetic
mixed together  a few minutes before feeding- he would cry at first and
then calm and nurse for a few minutes- kept him hydrated. We won't talk
about the excruciatingly painful sores I got on my nipples at the same
