To all of you in the Northern Hemisphere, particularly in northern areas:
Have you seen that fantastic comet? One of the joys of walking a dog
several times a day is my opportunity to enjoy the solitude that comes with
darkness and the quiet of late evening hours.

Last night, I chanced to look upward and spied what I first thought was a
large contrail of a jet, which I often see, though rarely at night. But,
the moon was out and lighting the sky. That was no contrail. It filled
too much of the sky and lasted too long and was not wiggly like the trails
jets tend to leave.

I felt touched by the hand of something more powerful than earthly beings
when I saw that huge swath of white across nearly the entire sky.

How many of the rest of you saw it?

For those of you in the Southern Hemisphere, I hope you see equally
spectacular images that help us all place ourselves and our petty
difficulties into the perspective of a larger universe.

Am looking forward to walking again tonight in hopes of seeing it again--if
the clouds have not obscured the sky....

Def. of LC service: "We are all faced with a series of great opportunities
brilliantly disguised as impossible situations."
