Playing the devil's advocate:
Do women have the right to choose herbal remedies or prayer to "cure" an
infant with bacterial meningitis?
Do women have a right to lock a child up in a closet and not feed him/her for
days because that is the parenting "style" they believe in?
Recognizing that we, as healthcare providers have often been wrong, and have
caused harm (with the best of intentions), do we still not have the
obligation to speak up for the rights of infants/children when we honestly
believe a child is being harmed?
While I fervently hope the study showing no HIV transmission with EXCLUSIVE
breastfeeding is correct and is replicated many times, I don't believe the
literature is clear enough to support breastfeeding with HIV in the
"developed" world.
