    Jaye writes about a situation where a supply is diminishing around the 
4th month.
    I worked with a mother like this, who called for help with her 3rd baby. 
In the first 2 lactations, her milk went away once she started her menses, 
which she did at 3 months postpartum, despite exclusive breastfeeding.
    With this 3rd baby, she tried breastfeeding whenever the baby sucked her 
thumb....this enabled her to continue with a supply for another month before 
it faltered.
    I wonder about the feeding pattern in the first month postpartum. Now we 
know about the importance of frequent and early feeds to get as much prolactin 
into the receptors which has some impact on supply later on. Could it be that 
this mother, and the one I worked with, did not nurse often enough in the 
first week postpartum, which led to a faltering milk supply?
    I don't know. What do you all think?
